Home Kitchen Café opened its doors on Feb 24, 2009. It was winter in midcoast Maine and the country was in the midst of a recession. There were no tourists (a mainstay of our area), and no place to get breakfast and lunch served ALL day. After 2 years of planning, testing and tasting, we decided it was the time to start cooking for the public.

The cafe is located in a former 1940’s gas station (one of our bathrooms still has the original sink) and was renovated in 2013 to expand the kitchen and include a second floor and deck.

Here at Home Kitchen, our goal is to serve good, fresh, hearty, satisfying food, We make our dressings, breads, black beans, soups, corned beef hash, corn tortillas, polenta, homefries and more from scratch on our premises. Our con- sistancy in preparation and presentation, are just a few of the reasons folks keep stopping at our door. Our food is enhanced by our incredible staff who strive to provide our guests with a great experience.

Our cuisine is a mix of comfort food enhanced with a touch of the Southwest. Home Kitchen’s now famous “lobster tacos” use lobster caught here on the coast. “Home Schooled”, a crowd favorite, features our “masa harina” hand made corn tortillas filled with haddock, cabbage, tomatoes, red onion, pepper- jack cheese, sour cream, and avocado. “Home On The Range” is two poached eggs resting on our HOME-made corned beef hash. We offer seven different styles of eggs benedict all covered with HOME-style hollandaise and served on our hearty toast. Our white, wheat, oat, and rye breads, sticky and sinnie buns use all our own proprietary recipes and are made in our own bakery.
